What happens after my client accepts the quotation?Broker | How to work with us |
-
If your enquiry has received an automatic quote, simply return to the quotation within the underwriting portal and issue the policy when your client is ready to proceed. The relevant policy documentation will then be produced automatically.
Where your enquiry has been referred, our underwriters will assess the risk and contact you with the outcome. If cover can be offered, your quotation and policy documentation will then be made available through the portal.
-
Do I need an RU agency before requesting a quote?Broker | How to work with us |
-
Yes. Your firm will need an agreed Terms of Business Agreement (TOBA) and access to the underwriting portal before you can request quotations or place business. If you are new to Renovation Underwriting, you can apply to become an RU broker through our agency application process.
-
Does a referral mean my enquiry has been declined?Broker | How to work with us |
-
No, not at all. A referral simply means that part of the enquiry requires specialist underwriting consideration before terms can be confirmed. Our underwriters will review the information provided, assess the risk and advise on the next steps.
-
Do I follow the same process for both private client and commercial renovation enquiries?Broker | How to work with us |
-
Yes. Both private client and commercial renovation enquiries begin in the same underwriting portal using the same question set. Where specialist underwriting review is required, your enquiry will be referred to our experienced underwriting team for assessment. Commercial renovation risks are currently referred for underwriting review and are not eligible for the express route.
-
Can I still speak to an underwriter?Broker | How to work with us |
-
Absolutely. Our specialist underwriting team is always available to provide advice and guidance. For straightforward enquiries, the portal may provide a firm quote without requiring manual review, which means you get a response more quickly through the express route. But where you have a question, need support or your enquiry is referred, our underwriters are always on hand to help.
-
Why has Renovation Underwriting introduced an express route for policy enquiries?Broker | How to work with us |
-
We want to help brokers place straightforward renovation risks more quickly and efficiently, while ensuring more complex enquiries continue to benefit from specialist underwriting expertise. By combining automated decision-making with experienced underwriters, we provide a faster outcome where appropriate and expert judgement where it matters most.
-
Which proposal form should I use?Broker | How to work with us |
-
Please always use the latest RU proposal form. It reflects the information requested in the current online question set. If you have a previous copy saved, please disregard it and download the current version before starting a new enquiry.

Why does this insurance cost more than a home policy?Broker | Insurer Details and Policy Benefits | Project Professionals | Renovator |
-
A building site is significantly riskier than a standard domestic situation. The building undergoes structural changes, making it more vulnerable to loss or damage. Materials on-site could be stolen, liability exposure increases, and the presence of works can attract unwanted attention.
We ensure that our insurance fully protects you and your home during the contract works period. Even if your contractor breaches the policy terms and conditions, you will still get paid—provided you were not complicit.
It is possible to insure a building project more cheaply, but lower premiums often come with significant compromises in coverage and protection. More than 75% of claims using traditional insurance products fail. A JCT-compliant insurance policy is the most secure way to insure a project.
